Classroom Makeover: Week 4 (Continued)

Over the past few days I've completed a few new things in my classroom, so I thought I'd quickly update the blog with some pictures! :)

Focus Board complete

I had displayed my parts of speech posters on the other side of the room, but I decided they needed a board, so I made a green bulletin board on both sides of the white board at the front of the room and it made the whole wall look so much better!
I also decided to create a cursive ABC line to put over the board. I had originally planned on not having an ABC line since I'm going to have 5th graders, but the wall just need something and it's always good to have a guide for cursive handwriting. I may end up taking it down if I see it's completely unnecessary.

I've got one side of the filing cabinet covered. Still need to do the rest, but I've at least got a little bit done :)

Table baskets are done!

I made these little magnets from Ashley Hughes clipart to hold each amazing word since this board was made on a white marker board. This way it will be easy to change out each week.

I FINALLY made my no sew curtains, which is way easier than I thought it would be. I found this iron on adhesive at Wal Mart.

All you do is fold over the fabric and lay down the tape.

Iron it:

And simply pull off the tape. Super simple!

Curtains are up! :) :)

Classroom Makeover: Week Four

I've been enjoying summer a little too much lately (is that possible?) and haven't done a whole bunch in my classroom, but I have managed to get a couple of tasks completed.

Completed: Our Word Wall
This originally was one big pink board that I was going to use for writing, but I couldn't find a good place for the word wall. So I decided to divide this big board and use it was two things. There isn't a whole lot of room for writing, but we can display a few things on it like an anchor chart for the weekly skill.

 Completed: Instagram Door/Board
In my little independent reading area there's a door that leads to the air conditioning unit. I originally thought I would hate this but it creates the nicest humming sound...kinda like a fan. I'm dreaming if I think the room will ever be quiet enough to actually hear the calming sound, but it's nice while it lasts! :)
Anyways, back to the picture. I thought it would be nice to have an area in the classroom to display the pictures we take throughout the year, so I created an Instagram board/door. I found this perfect wrapping paper ($2.50!) at TJ Maxx. I was a little worried about the quality, but it was so easy to work with!

 Completed: Spicing up my marker storage
This was the tiniest of projects, but I've been wanting to do this forever.

Completed: The Twitter Board
I took this picture before I added the "today's question". I'll post a question (not every single day) and the class will "tweet" their answers.

 Completed: Poms and Table Labeling
I couldn't get a good shot of all the poms. Three are green and three are pink. This took FOREVER, but I feel much more organized now. :)

Favorite Things Giveaway #2: Back to School Edition!

I LOVE summertime and I would be perfectly happy if it were summer all year long, but I also LOVE seeing all the back to school items in the stores. There have been some great finds here lately and I've also seen lots of other great finds from everyone's instagrams. After several trips to Target, Hobby Lobby, Kohls, and my local teacher supply store, I have just about got my classroom complete. I've collected several of my favorite items and decided to give them away. Here's what's included:

{A magnetic whiteboard eraser}
{Post It Tape: I love these! You can write on the tape...great for labeling!}
{Crazy Faces Scented Markers. Normally I'm not a fan of the off brand of crayons, but these scented markers are great!}

{notepad}

{name plates. I am in LOVE with these kids...aren't these precious. If I didn't have three classes of different fifth graders, I'd be using them. They are precious.}

{These are technically bulletin board pieces, but I always used these as center activities.}

{A weekly/monthly planner from Target}

{I bought so many of these dry erase boards. I love that they now have them to look like notebook paper. Perfect!}

{Pocket charts from Target. *LOVE*}

Classroom Makeover: Week Two

Right now, I'm at my favorite stage of creating a classroom. All the boards are up, furniture is placed, and I'm ready to decorate everything. So far, I've created our vocabulary board, genres board,  and classroom rules. I'm *almost* finished with the objectives board, but I've misplaced my pocket chart. :( Here's what I've accomplished so far.

Classroom Rules
Have you ever read The Essential 55 by Ron Clark? I'm obsessed with Ron Clark and I absolutely loved this book, but I think 55 classroom rules is a bit overwhelming for my classroom and my students, so I made the essential 5, which includes a broad range of rules.

Daily Objectives
When my grandmother was in the hospital back in May, she had a white board in her room that had her health plan for the day. I loved the idea of this and quickly discovered this could be used as classroom objectives. The lost pocket chart will go under the title and will contain the common core standards for the week, while the daily part will include the plan for the day and possibly homework.

Genres Board

Vocabulary Board
This board will contain all the vocabulary words for the week

Comprehension Posters

Parts of Speech Posters

That's all I've got right now. It's slowly coming together, piece by piece :)

Classroom Makeover: Week One

Can y'all believe it's already July???? Where in the world did June go and how can we get it back? I love my job, but I believe I would be perfectly fine with June lasting all year. :) I've decided to try and get my classroom done and put together as soon as I can, so I can enjoy summer before having to go back to school in August. This way, it won't stress me out and I know I won't run out of time, which is what happened last year. So for the past couple of days, I worked EXTREMELY hard and got most of the room done. All boards are up, except for one, but not finished. Furniture is placed and everything is ready to be decorated and "cozied up!" Here's what I've accomplished so far:

Filing Cabinet still needs to be covered...

These paintings are always in my classroom. The girl I painted at a painting party with some teacher friends, and the other two dot pictures are from two of my 1st grade class that we did during one of our weekly reading stories: "The Dot". See the green one? That was done by my first class, which is also the class I'm going to have this year as 5th graders.  :)

I decided my classroom needed some good 'ole anchor charts. All of these that I created were inspired by other's creations that I found on Pinterest. They can be found on my 'Anchor Charts' board here.

**This one is entirely mine...and it is also our first vocabulary skill. I'm SO excited to be teaching vocabulary!

This is the vocabulary board. There is no title or heading yet, but it will display the vocabulary cards for each week's words.

I've created these cards for the vocabulary words. I'll upload them soon. :)

This was a great find from Hobby Lobby and is perfect for holding our class magazines. It will look much better after I have the labels done.
**Correction: This was a great TJ MAXX find! Sorry! All these stores are running together at this point :) I may or may not be on a first name basis with some of the store employees! HA!

The circle table needs to be raised. It was a good height for my first graders...not so much for 5th graders. :)

I LOVE the computer set up in this room. They always looked so messy in my old classroom, but the computer tables work fabulously here.

See those extra computers? They will soon be set up neatly under the pink and green boards. Just as soon as I can find a table for them.

This will be my small group meeting area, but it needs a lot of work. And some chairs. And a new, colorful desk chair. And some decorating. :) :)

That's all I've got so far. I am IN LOVE with all the storage space. I even have empty shelves at this point and I would have never thought that was possible. It is wonderful and it has made creating this classroom so much easier. :)
There's still so much to do, but I'm happy with the amount of work I've got finished so far. It's nice knowing everything's basically placed where it goes and it's not sitting in the middle of the floor, piled up on desks anymore. Baby steps.. :) Talk to y'all soon!
